I didn’t write this, but I wish I had. This is fucking brilliant.
Equestria is a land ruled by a shamelessly Apollinean force (just look at her cutie mark) the demiurgic Princess Celestia. This figure is the self-declared goddess, head priestess (of her own religion) and absolutist ruler.
She is devoted to making reality a static thing. She is an agent of asphyxiating order and will enslave the will of everypony to achieve that. She imprisons her Dionysian counterpart, Nightmare Moon and suppresses the abilities of Twilight (of the Gods) Sparkle. Twilight Sparkle was an element of chaos, but Celestia would not accept that. She leaves Twilight Sparkle a neurotic wreck, obsessed with a rational, understandable universe. In fact, one can say that her assignment in the supposed magic of friendship is merely an indoctrination on slave morality.
But that is nothing compared to the Platonic/Aristotelian nightmare of cutie marks. Cutie marks are a gross imposition on pony will. Cutie marks speak of an imposed essence, an imposed role in life. Ponies are what Celestia, in her YHWH-esque quest for perfect order wills them to be. You should not do what you will, says Celestia, you should do what you were assigned from birth to do.
This brings order, yes, but at what cost? Ponies under this regime live long, peaceful lives. Notice how mechanic their chores are, how empty and how cyclical. This can not do.
Only a new transvaloration can end this. Only a chaotic force, a new type of pony… an uberpony can summon the Dionysian furies and bring life-affirmation to equestria.
This new individual can only come from a type of teacher. This teacher is, of course, one exempt from this manichean drama - Spike. Seen from birth in a tell-tale ouroboric stance, sucking his own tail, self-reliant, transgressing set boundaries. He displays lust for a pony, even knowing this is not meant to be. Spike is one unpredictable element in Celestia’s divine chess. We can also see the erisian force of Pinkie Pie, beyond what the rationalistic cage inside Twilight Sparkle can understand.
It is Spike and Pinkie Pie that will allow Twilight Sparkle to realize what veil has been placed on her eyes.
Remember that it was her that first doubted Celestia, that was first to question the hypocritical morality behind her imprisoning of Nightmare Moon. Once she is free from Celestia’s weakening morality, she will dethrone the Apollonian excess and allow the Dionysian to emerge in Equestria.
